I have a multidisciplinary background including animal science, statistics, molecular genetics, electronics, project evaluations, and business.
I am the Founder CEO of Canakkale Research &Technology Park Inc. It is a company dedicated to academy-industry collaboration. In the first year of our establishment, our total worth increased from 220K to 970K. When I left in September 2015, we had 26 companies running R&D in our offices, 3 companies with their buildings on our land, and our company had a total worth of 14 Million. We accomplished the first-ever international R&D export from the city of Canakkale. One of our companies, Inspark was selected among the fastest-growing 50 technology companies in Turkey. Our science park has MOU with Research Triangle Park of North Carolina. I have a large collaboration network in the industry with people and companies from all over the World.
I have been working for the REA of the EU Commission since 2004, combining other experts' reports for consensus reports as rapporteur, and editing expert reports and editing/providing feedback on rapporteurs' reports as Vice-Chair. The project budgets range from 600K Euros for IXF to 3.5 Million Euros for ITN. As the vice-chair, I facilitate the evaluation process and regularly monitor the progress achieved by the evaluators and the rapporteurs, giving them advice on their reports. When I have the role of an expert, I evaluate scientific projects submitted to the European Union and as the rapporteur, manage the evaluation meetings and prepare the consensus reports. I have a tips article on the web that received more than eight thousand comments. I have a lot of contacts from my job in Brussels, and many of them are spread all over the world, such as Australia, Brazil, and mainly in Europe. Any job that requires hiring people will find that I can get diversity and inclusion in the institution I am working for. I, of course, have a vast amount of contacts in Turkey as I can attract high-quality scientists from all over the world.
I have about 50 peer-reviewed publications, and my latest book is A. Pala. and Charles S. Whisnant. 2016. Mammalian Endocrinology Handbook. You can see more at akin.houseofpala.com
I have been working as a faculty member and I am a full professor. I worked as the Assistant Dean for Graduate school between the dates 2009-2011 and I am happy to report that I was able to help most of the faculty and graduate students solve what the graduate school bureaucrats called “unsolvable problems”. I have worked in two different departments as the Department Head, and I personally worked in the basic establishment of the Molecular Genetics Department. Both departments became stronger with my hires, and their student entrance scores in the national exams increased.
I did my Ph.D. at NCSU and worked at several jobs including an elected position of Electronic Communications Chair, wrote PERL for the math department, worked as a teaching assistant, and paid taxes. As I have an electronics degree in addition to my Ph.D. in animal breeding, I am able to adapt to most situations, no matter what the subject is.
Sincerely,
Prof. Akin Pala
